The Museum of the Yellowstone is operated by the Yellowstone Historic Center, a nonprofit located in West Yellowstone. The museum is located in the original 1908 Union Pacific Railroad Depot, a single-story, hip-roofed building constructed of wood framing, brick, concrete, and quarry-faced native rhyolite stone. It is approximately 700 feet west of the park boundary. During its use as a depot, passengers disembarked from trains on the south side of the building and caught stagecoaches, and later White Motor tour buses, under the porte-cochere on the north side.
